Svanehøj wins gasoline pump order for 15 LNG dual-fuel container vessels

Orders for dual-fuel LNG vessels broke all information in 2021 with a total of 240 ships globally. That is greater than the earlier 4 years combined. And Forbidden seems set to proceed unabated in 2022.
According to information from classification society DNV, orders for 56 dual-fuel LNG vessels have been positioned in January and February.This change in demand has created quite a buzz at Svanehøj. The Danish marine pump specialist quadrupled sales of its patented deepwell gasoline pumps in 2021, and there are many indications that sales could increase even additional in 2022.
Svanehøj has simply secured an order for gas pump techniques for 15 dual-fuel LNG container vessels (7,000 TEU), which are to be built at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding. The total of 30 deepwell gasoline pumps will be delivered from August 2022 to January 2024. The order is among Svanehøj’s largest relating to LNG fuel to date. It is the second time throughout the last year that this buyer has chosen Svanehøj as the supplier of LNG fuel pump systems. In July 2021, they signed a contract for deepwell pumps for 10 dual-fuel LNG container vessels (15,000 TEU).
“Until a number of years ago, using LNG as a marine fuel was restricted to LNG carriers and smaller ships. But we are now seeing a sharp enhance in fuel pump orders for deep sea vessels such as container ships and automobile carriers. We were chosen because the supplier of gas pump methods for over 50% of the dual-fuel LNG container vessels ordered globally in 2020-21. And we goal to increase our market share further within the coming years”, says Johnny Houmann, Chief Sales Officer, Svanehøj.
Large investment in lean manufacturing and new equipment
To help the green transition of the maritime trade, Svanehøj is currently investing more than DKK 10 million in upgrading its production services in Denmark. A new manufacturing unit format with manufacturing cells and robotics will assist Svanehøj’s ambitious development strategy and scale back lead instances for all products.
“We have made a strategic choice to implement lean manufacturing. By rethinking our processes, we anticipate to increase productiveness and capability by as much as 50%,” says Mikkel Bülow Bundgaard Sørensen, Lean Specialist, Svanehøj.
Svanehøj has entered 2022 with a brand new technique and a target of doubling its turnover to DKK 1 billion ($152 million) by the top of 2026. In addition to gas pumps for LNG, LPG, and carbon-neutral fuels, Svanehøj sees nice potential in creating pump options for the infrastructure to be constructed round Power-to-X and carbon seize and storage (CCS).
